Curse of Osiris begins after the events of Destiny 2. The mysterious Warlock Osiris has vanished, and a new Vex threat has surfaced on Mercury. Pushed by Ikora Rey to investigate, you and your Ghost set your sights on the planet closest to the Sun in the hopes of saving Osiris and defeating this new threat. The Vex have always been the most interesting of Destinyās five alien species. Unlike the others, we donāt know what motivates them to convert planets and who their allegiance belongs too. Likewise, the character of Osiris has been hyped up over the past three years through the Grimoire and Brother Vance, which means that there should be an interesting story here. Unfortunately, there isnāt. In fact, Curse of Osirisā storytelling is a regression back to Vanilla Destiny.
Bungie is not the same developer that created Halo; that much has been clear ever since the early days of Destiny 1. Ever since Destiny 2 was announced, though, itās as if theyāre not even the same developer that made Destiny 1. The first Destiny had many flaws, as did the company that made it, but Bungie made up for those flaws with real improvements to the game and a passion for it that poured through their announcements, trailers and developer diaries. Fans were willing to stick around because they could feel that passion and the game really did get better.
There’s a lot going on in this Beta, even though it’s relatively small with not a lot to do. The changes so far are mostly positive, showing promise for the real thing. Destiny 2 comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6 and then to PC on October 24, so there’s not much time left.
We delivered a solid experience on all platforms we shipped Destiny on. With Destiny 2 being on modern hardware weāre able to create bigger environments, more elaborate activities for more players to enjoy, and put more enemy combatants on screen.
Destiny 2 has finally, truly been revealed. Bungie and Activision finally lifted the curtain on the much-anticipated sequel, showcasing gameplay for the first time. Hardcore Gamer was able to sit down with Bungie’s Community Manager, David ‘DeeJ’ Dauge to discuss what new stuff Destiny 2 brings to the table and what the future holds for the franchise. For more on Destiny 2, be sure to check out our in-depth preview of the campaign, Inverted Spire strike and multiplayer.
What we want to do is make every player in Destiny feel essential. We want every single player to feel like a superhero that gets to save the day at some point during the match. As a support player, Iām guilty on many occasions of hanging back and scoring assists. In Destiny 2 missions 2, Iām going to be provoked into being a hero and helping my team of four in the competitive landscape.
Of course, thatās not all. All the original subclasses return, kind of. You can play as a Nightstalker or Gunslinger Hunter, a Voidwalker or Stormcaller Warlock, or a Striker or Hammer of Sol Titan. A few of the subclasses have been tweaked to be more effective in Destiny 2. For example, a Striker Titanās Super now allows players to run about and perform multiple ground-pounds, making it a far more useful class. Abilities from the Defender, Sunginsger and Bladedancer subclasses have been absorbed into he new subclasses.
[DeeJ] We pick up the adventure where it last left off. You are a Guardian of the last safe city, except itās not so safe anymore. The entire might of the Cabal military descend upon you. Dominus Ghaul leads the Red Legion, the most dreaded fighting force in Cabal Empire to scatter the Guardians across the Solar System and capture the Traveler for himself. So, in the opening act, we lose everything that makes us a Guardian. Our power, our weapons, our armor, itās all gone. Scattered into the wild, weāre going to find new subclasses, new power, new weapons and armor so that we can become more powerful, regroup the survivors, and launch an attack to reclaim that was rightfully ours.Unfortunately, most of the rest of the content Curse of Osiris provides isnāt top quality. Mercury doesnāt offer the space or sense of wonder other areas provide to make it a worthwhile social space or area to explore. The Lighthouse, the new social space, is way smaller than it was in the original Destiny, and it only contains one vendor to interact with. Meanwhile, the open area of Mercury is just a tiny circle, so tiny in fact that Sparrows are disabled to give the illusion it’s bigger than it really is. On Mercury, youāll find one public event, three adventures, and one Lost Sector. For a planet that has been teased since the initial release of Destiny, itās appearance in Destiny 2 is underwhelming.
The story campaign has more missions and cinematics than youāve ever seen in a Destiny game. The player experience has more variety, more types of activities, and more ways for you to enjoy the experience by yourself, or with other players. It is, in terms of the action youāll enjoy, a more diverse experience than any Bungie game ever.
